A Thought on Creation

Assuming Gen. 1:1 describes an act of creation and is not a title: It's striking that the Genesis account begins with the creation of two realms rather than a single entity or realm.

Hesiod says that there was one reality, chaos; Anaximander says "together were all things"; Thales claimed that water was the beginning.

But not Genesis: Duality and difference does not arise from a prior unity. Difference is primordial in creation, as in God.

I really appreciate this observation. Some of the early Gnostics claimed that difference and differentiation (specifically of sex) was a result or outcome of the fall, while I have always thought it was consistent in a continuous line of diverse creations (He separated Night from Day, Land from Sea, Light from Darkness) which seem to be pre-fall. Your observations give a little more foundation for my intuitive reading of Genesis.

Thanks.
